Groundswell NW has been supporting the East Ballard Community Association for almost 10 years now. Here’s a way we can show our support in return! Groundswell NW’s Annual Meeting, ‘Inspiring Access to Wildlife in NW Seattle’ on Sunday Feb 21, 6:30 PM at the Leif Erikson Lodge, will prove to be inspiring with 2 great speakers, Cass Turnbull from PlantAmnesty and David Mizejewski from the National Wildlife Federation. Plus there will be free drawings for donated gifts that will help you create and register your own wildlife habitat that attracts birds, butterflies and bees to NW Seattle. We’re looking forward to seeing you at this fun and interactive event!

Parks Need You, We Need You
We’re sharing this recent appeal from Groundswell NW, because they are the East Ballard Community Association’s mentor and fiscal sponsor. A tax-deductible donation from you today to Groundswell NW will go toward helping neighborhood groups like us continue to thrive.
Picture, for a moment, the last time you were in a Park. Maybe you were strolling through, walking your dog, taking your child to play, or seeking a peaceful spot to enjoy your morning coffee with a friend.
As you think about it, you realize that parks actually play a pretty important role in your life. You Need Parks.
But have you thought about how much Parks Need You ?
Parks Need You to keep them clean and safe, to care for their plants and trees and bring your family and neighbors together to enjoy them.
Many of the parks, open spaces and habitat in NW Seattle are cared for and loved by community groups, like Friends of Ballard Corners Park, East Ballard Community Association , Friends of Salmon Bay Natural Area, Whittier Heights Involved Neighbors , Friends of Crown Hill Glen, Friends of Sunset Hill-Shilshole Gateway , Sustainable Ballard, Friends of the Troll’s Knoll , Friends of Thyme Patch Park , Ballard Greenways , and Friends of North Beach Park .
At Groundswell NW, we’re honored to serve these community groups and many more in NW Seattle by providing mentorship, awarding microgrants, providing fiscal sponsorship, and advocating for your parks at the neighborhood and city level.
As much as these groups need us, We Need You! Show your support for Groundswell NW by making a year-end, tax deductible donation today.
Thank you for your support, and on behalf of all of us at Groundswell NW, Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year!

Sidewalk of Thanks
A neighbor left out a few cups of chalk and signs that read “Write your own” on the south sidewalk along NW 60th just west of 14th Ave NW. And so those who normally just walk by, took a moment to stop and share what they’re thankful for. Here are a few words of thanks. You can find more here. Wouldn’t it be fun to do this all year round on every sidewalk?

Bringing in Community – Friday Night Social Nov 20
“The Ballard Bell has summoned the community since 1889 and it’s ringing for you now. As Ballard changes . . . keep growing your Neighbors!” – Peggy Sturdivant
In the effort to bring together, the community of Ballard – with all the old and all of the new – and foster more connected neighbors – Bringing in Community – Ballard Event will be held on Friday, November 20th from 6:30 – 8:30 at the Cheryl Chow Gathering Space (2014 NW 57th – across from Greenfire and the Ballard Library). This event will be free and open to the Ballard public but we ask that you bring a plate of home baked cookies to share with neighbors, and we will be accepting packaged goods donations for Ballard Food Bank.
There will be great live music by Half Rushmore, an art project and food, along with neighbors from community organizations who will share some inspiring historical information of their organization as well as what they are offering the community today.
Come out for the fun to our Friday night social and celebrate the value in gathering and growing as neighbors in Ballard. Learn more and RSVP here.
This project is funded in part by a Neighborhood Matching Fund Award from the City of Seattle, Department of Neighborhoods.
